Just Out

After nearly a decade, Marc Jacobs has returned to men’s scent with his classic sense of rebelliousness—and a bang—that is Bang ($55, 50ml), the provocative new fragrance that combines masculinity with a sense of whimsy. Jacobs himself stars in the advertisements, posing on a silver Mylar bed with nothing but the flacon covering his privates. Designed by Harry Allen, in collaboration with Jacobs, the smoky black, heavyweight, faceted glass bottle contrasts with shiny, metallic plates shielding front and back; the bottle, which appears to be crumpled, was reportedly described by Jacobs, as “looking like it had taken a bullet to its center.” The “impact,” marked at the core with the debossed logo, leaves an embossed reversed imprint on the back plaque.  The metallic silver cap complements the plaques and is stamped with a debossed logo. The outer carton reflects the bottle’s dramatic silver finish and multi-faceted surface. The silver design is contrasted with a matte black-angled frame that mimics the glass bottle. The fragrance, from Givaudan and perfumer Yan Vasnier, developed in collaboration with Ann Gottlieb, is described as peppery, woody and spicy.
